What is a mangrove?
Mangroves form woody plant environments in warm, shallow tidal water that cover more than half of the Australian coastline. Mangroves are found on sheltered muddy coastlines and along estuaries. A mangrove ecosystem is a tidal effected habitat which consists of different plants and animals pertaining to the location of the mangrove ecosystem. Mangroves are salt tolerant plants also known as halophytes which thrive in the estuarine environments which they have adapted to. Mangroves can grow from two metre high shrubs to thirty metre high trees.
